General Manager

Education Level: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Structural Engineering, Construction Engineering or related field (required)

Experience:
      • operations management – 2 years (required)
      • structural steel/misc. metal fabrication management – 2 years (required)

    • Location: Wayne, MI (in-person)

    Position Type:
      • full-time
      • on-site
      • Monday – Friday
      • 7 a.m. – 3 p.m.
      • travel required throughout Southeast/Central Michigan and northern Ohio

    • Overview:
    Morkin & Sowards is seeking an experienced General Manager to become an integral part of our team. Successful applicants will have a proven track record as an operations manager within the structural steel fabrication industry. This may include all facets of running and operating a steel fabrication facility.

     

    Responsibilities:

      • managing all operation activity
      • determining the schedule of work and material purchases
      • enforcing all safety and quality standards
      • assisting in the preparation of detailed and accurate cost estimates
      • assuring proper documentation and accounting for project RFIs, change requests, change orders, and invoicing
      • reviewing plans and proposals to determine proper procedures in order to accomplish company and project goals
      • ensuring all aspects of projects are properly and thoroughly documented to protect company interests
      • ensuring that all contractual terms and obligations of projects are maintained
      • buying out projects to ensure they meet cost requirements
      • meeting with key personnel to identify potential barriers and resolutions to maximize production, minimize cost and ensure timeliness
      • visiting job sites as needed for field measuring, meetings, and project coordination

     

    Qualifications:

      • proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project, Bluebeam and Tekla PowerFab
      • knowledge of current AISC standards and AWS codes
      • experience reviewing construction drawings (i.e. architectural, structural)
      • ability to understand contract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work and project schedules
      • excellent written, verbal and digital communication skills
      • excellent attention to detail with a commitment to quality
      • strong organizational and planning skills
      • ability to successfully manage multiple projects while meeting strict deadlines
      • ability to prioritize safety
      • ability to work independently
      • self-motivated and results-driven
      • strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
      • knowledge of all phases of the construction and design processes
      • ability to adhere to the highest standards of ethics, integrity, and professionalism
      • must be a US citizen with knowledge of the construction market in Southeast Michigan
