Project Manager & Estimator

Education Level: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Structural Engineering, Construction Engineering or related field (required)

Experience:
      • estimating – 2 years (required)
      • structural steel/misc. metal fabrication project management – 2 years (required)

    • Location: Wayne, MI (in-person)

    Position Type:
      • full-time
      • on-site
      • Monday – Friday
      • 7 a.m. – 3 p.m.
      • travel required throughout Southeast/Central Michigan and northern Ohio

    • Salary: $70-80,000

    Overview:
    Morkin & Sowards is seeking an experienced Project Manager and Estimator to become an integral part of our team. Successful applicants will have a proven track record as a project manager/estimator of a structural steel fabrication company. This may include managing or coordinating a team of Project Coordinators, Project Administrators, and other Project Managers.

     

    Responsibilities:

      • enforcing all safety and quality standards
      • providing business development and lead generation to meet sales goals
      • communicating with necessary departments to determine the schedule of work and material purchases
      • preparing detailed and accurate cost estimates
      • preparing reports for management
      • assuring proper documentation and accounting for project RFI’s, change requests, and change orders
      • reviewing contract documents and understanding the project scope of work
      • reviewing plans and proposals to determine proper procedures in order to accomplish company and project goals
      • reviewing addenda, construction bulletins, RFPs, and other change documentation
      • ensuring all aspects of projects are properly and thoroughly documented to ensure company interests are protected
      • ensuring that all contractual terms and obligations of projects are maintained
      • buying out projects to ensure they meet cost requirements
      • meeting with key personnel to identify potential barriers and resolutions to maximize production, minimize cost and ensure timeliness
      • visiting job sites as needed for field measuring, meetings and project coordination

     

    Qualifications:

      • proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project, Bluebeam and Tekla PowerFab
      • experience with AutoCAD, Fabsuite, SDS2, Tekla or similar applications is a bonus
      • knowledge of current AISC standards and AWS codes
      • experience reviewing construction drawings (i.e. architectural, structural)
      • ability to understand contract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work and project schedules
      • excellent written, verbal and digital communication skills
      • excellent attention to detail with a commitment to quality and precision
      • strong organizational and planning skills
      • ability to successfully manage multiple projects while meeting strict deadlines
      • ability to prioritize safety
      • ability to work independently
